I am so bummed! My absolute favorite moisturizer for winter is being discontinued, insert heavy sigh here. L'Oreal Youthcode isn't being carried by Walgreens anymore and that's where I do a lot of my shopping for odds and ends, besides eBay and Amazon. I am not sure if the company is re-branding it or if they are going to be putting it in new packaging, but I saw four of them on a clearance end cap and I bought two of them. I don't know if I'm going to go through four of them, but I don't like having things on the shelf for too long. I do love layering e.l.f. poreless primer under the L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream, but this tinted moisturizer is a one step for me.
I feel like winter is the best time to use this because it's very dewy and give your skin a slightly wet look. I also have ever so slight wrinkles coming in around my mouth and between my brows, and this helps plump those areas and it's not so heavily tinted that the hue doesn't settle in and make those lines easier to spot.
I do like to switch out my fragrance for the winter, Kenneth Cole makes a scent called White and it's very fresh and light for the sprint and summer. In winter I like something more earthy and warm. I know describing fragrances is very abstract and pretentious, but I will try! Sarah Jessica Parker came out with Lovely years ago, and to be honest I wasn't into it. I thought it was going to smell like flowers or something generic. But it's very cozy, like a cabin in a snow storm. It's still fresh but it has a woody note to it, but it's still feminine.
I take the aloe plant inside for the winter, and I try not to kill it by taking too many leaves. It's nice to make a face mask with, or to mix the pulp with a drop of lemon juice and use it as a night time moisturizer. I also use the skin of the leaves to make a tea to help an upset stomach, or the day after I've eaten a lot of junk.
I do tend to take baths year round just because I run, so I have sore leg muscles. But in the winter I use these Shea Moisture Daily Defense Bubble Bath packets. I also have epsom salts on hand ALWAYS. If my skin is being terrible and problematic, I do a drop or two of tea tree oil in the bath water as well. I feel like a hot bath after a run makes it easier to transition to bed time, or if you just need to get off your feet after work.
Yes I think good eating is part of a winter beauty routine. Also, yes: I include chocolate and soft cheese in that equation. I do a gluten free diet to reduce inflammation, and I think healing your gut helps with other parts of your body, like skin and hair.
Apple season is pretty much over, but there are still apples coming into the markets. My favorites are Honey Crisp and Snap Dragon. The Honey Crisp seems to be coming in much larger, and the Snap Dragons are a bit smaller. They are both great, but I think the Snap Dragon is less juicy.
