Thankfulness: Placing Daily Life Into Perspective without Toxic Positivity, I have been in deep reflection on some questions in the ASCA (Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse) pose in their "C Reader". For instance, "what have been the consequences in my life for not cultivating a sense of thankfulness into my daily rhythm?" Loneliness, isolation, resentment, feeling excluded, feeling unwanted in social settings are the ramifications of avoiding thankfulness. This is just my experience, I have a history as a people pleaser. People pleasers usually have a history of neglect, but not always.
Another topic to move on to: "How will cultivating thankfulness affect the usual way that I approach my day, other people, the tasks that I undertake on a daily basis?" Reflecting on thankfulness makes me feel fulfilled, connected to my friends, connected to my craft. Learning how to draw again using the iPad has been like swimming. It came like second nature. It's really made me faster and we've made more progress together, me and my collaborator, on the book illustrations.
Moving on to some actionable ways to maintain thankfulness. "What are some practical ways that will assist in cultivating a thankful orientation in my daily life?" I use practices like Writing, making art, talking to friends, visiting friends, making art for friends, taking care of myself, my health, nurturing my skin, making daily routines to better my skin, hair, breathing exercises, open to other ideas too. Listening to lo-fi hip hop in the evening and spending time with the cat or chatting with friends in the group chat.
Other things I do: Prioritizing experiences, quality time, and my ‘found’ family. What I am truly thankful for is the freedom that my lifestyle allows me. To pay the bills and travel and work on passion projects.
