Running Again

ree

Finally getting back in the habit, running is a lifelong love/ hate relationship I have going. I’ve been running on and off since I was 17 to keep in shape, but surgery last year set me back. I’ve been running/ jogging/ walking about 1.5-3 miles every other day for the last 2 weeks. The day before yesterday I made it to 6 miles. After a hot bath and some yoga, which to me feels better than a massage, I got back out today for a 4-mile run.

After years of gluten free eating, I’ve lost about 20 pounds and kept it off, which has helped my joint pain. It is hard to get back into an old routine, so I’m doing new things. I’ve been using my exercise plan to distract me from stress and work related things. I rely on yoga and walking more, and sprint more often during my dedicated jogging times.

I’m not running to lose weight or to run a marathon, it’s more about expanding my lung capacity because of my asthma, also working slow twitch muscles in the legs helps burn fat over a longer span of time even after your workout is over. Reducing weight is a perk, but I’m more about reducing inflammation over the long term, building my muscle and testing my endurance.
