I was inspired by Pinterest to try and start rose bushes from my mom's Mother's Day bouquet. There were 11 roses and they were all in different colors so I figured I'd try and start them all to see which ones would do well.
I'm in upstate New York and my soil is very rocky. I dug out the holes and put cinnamon in the bottom of each hole to prevent fungus. I used a power drill to put holes in a potato and inserted the rose stem inside. I made a fresh cut before putting it in, and scraped the green off about an inch from the bottom. I also used Clonex gel which is a purple gel that promotes root sprouts. Be aware that it will stain so wear something you usually do yard work in. I planted every stem with it's respective potato and put a water bottle over each stem. See this tutorial on Youtube, it was very helpful.
