Market Street Music Weekend: Poetry, Bourbon, Butterflies, and Lollipops

There is something magical about a small town when the weather is good and the streets are full of people lingering a little longer than usual.

This weekend in Corning offered exactly that.

Music on Market Street

Live music filled Market Street throughout the day, creating a soundtrack for downtown as visitors wandered between shops, galleries, cafés, and the bookstore. The energy carried into the evening with an open mic at Centerway Square beginning at 6 p.m., where local performers gathered to share songs.

Treasures at Gustin’s Jewelry and Goldsmiths

One of my favorite stops was Gustin’s Jewelry and Goldsmiths. Their display cases held the kind of objects that make you pause and look twice.

A delicate cameo caught my eye, along with a stunning blue morpho butterfly displayed beneath a glass dome. Surrounded by vivid blue agate bookends and handcrafted jewelry, the display felt like a cabinet of curiosities where art, nature, and craftsmanship meet.

Homestead Bakery’s Unexpected Delight

Sometimes the smallest discoveries become the most memorable.

Homestead Bakery is now carrying handcrafted lollipops from Lollies by Leah, and they were incredible. Flavors included London Fog Ice Cream, Bomb Pop Cotton Candy, and Jolly Rancher. They were nostalgic, whimsical, and honestly just plain fun. Sometimes being an adult means buying gourmet lollipops because you can.

Bourbon Tasting at Bottles and Corks

From 1 to 4 p.m., Bottles and Corks hosted a bourbon tasting that drew a steady crowd throughout the afternoon. It was a great opportunity for whiskey enthusiasts to sample different pours, compare notes, and learn more about the craft behind each bottle.

Events like this remind me how many unique experiences are packed into a single afternoon downtown.

Poetry at Card Carrying Books

The evening ended at Card Carrying Books with a reading by Ukrainian poet Natalya Sukhonos. Her collection, Sunlight Trapped in Stone, explores memory, history, and resilience through beautifully crafted poems.

After the featured reading, the community gathered for an open mic, where local writers shared work ranging from deeply personal pieces to moments of humor and reflection.

Why These Days Matter

What I love most about weekends like this is how many different kinds of creativity coexist in one place.

Music on the street. Handmade jewelry. Butterflies preserved like works of art. Gourmet candy. Bourbon tastings. Poetry from around the world.

All within a few blocks of downtown.

That’s the charm of Corning: you never know what you’ll discover when you decide to spend a day wandering Market Street.
