I’m thankful for pets, my best friend, my support system, shelter, the basics
I’ve come a long way in my disordered eating recovery journey, but I have learned to allow myself some grace since August. My Binges have been more frequent, and what I call ‘acid reflux’ is what others might call purging. I am afraid of the acid in my stomach hitting my esophagus. I worry about a lot of things.
What helped me a lot was the change in scenery. I live full time in the Finger Lakes Region of New York but I’m seriously considering the snow bird life. My best friend lives in Florida and I just got back from a ten day stay at the beginning of November. I’m already planning another trip in January. I know I’ll be tired of the cold soon enough.
I have been lucky enough to be the Steuben county recipient for the artists grant through CRNY Guaranteed Income for Artists Program/Work Without Limits. This means I can work on more passion project and pursue dream clientele.
Keeping a routine has been helpful, I’ve been doing a very gentle yoga practice and walking in the mornings. I am still finding compromises with the parent I am the full time care taker for, she is high functioning but transitioning her over to be more independent is hard while she is also stressed. It’s a lot to unpack but it’s becoming easier and more manageable.
As far as food goes, I’m going to do a bunch of yummy sides since we never finish the protein. Turkey is too dry for us so we’ve done roasted chickens, cornish game hens and duck l’orange once. This year I will declare all sides! I’m doing potatoes with sour cream and parmesan cheese, gluten free stuffing with Canyon brand Hawaiian style bread with gruyere and mushroom, maybe a quiche and maybe crescent rolls with bacon and blue cheese. I guess I should glaze some carrots since all the carbs are going to weigh me down.
I’m thankful for the house, my little cottage and my little orange cat curled up at the end of the bed. Gentle music playing past the witching hour. I’m thankful for cozy blankets and clean beds. Lastly, I am thankful that my plants are still alive after a long trip.
