Finally getting back in the habit, running is a lifelong love/ hate relationship I have going. I’ve been running on and off since I was 17 to keep in shape, but surgery last year set me back. I’ve been running/ jogging/ walking about 1.5-3 miles every other day for the last 2 weeks. The day before yesterday I made it to 6 miles. After a hot bath and some yoga, which to me feels better than a massage, I get back out today for a 4-mile run.
After a year of gluten free eating, I’ve lost about 20 pounds, which has helped my joint pain. It is hard to get back into an old routine, but I’ve been using my exercise plan to distract me from stress and work related things. Some big changes are coming at the end of the summer, I’m planning on starting a new business with a family member and my nerves are frayed even though we haven’t even started yet.
I’m going to share that news in a press release before fall comes around. Here and now I’d like to share with you some ideas to plan if you are thinking about getting into running, either as a primary way to get fit or use it to supplement your other workout routines.
I’m not running to lose weight or to run a marathon, it’s more about expanding my lung capacity because of my asthma, also working slow twitch muscles in the legs helps burn fat over a longer span of time even after your workout is over. Reducing weight is a perk, but I’m more about reducing inflammation over the long term, building my muscle and testing my endurance. I also use this yoga routine after a run to stretch out and be nice to my joints. It's pretty beginner so I recommend it for those of you who are just getting into a workout routine. It's low impact so it's very appealing to newbies.
I had articles relevant to this subject posted via Suite 101 but I guess they aren’t in business anymore? So over the next few months, I’ll be researching a bit to see if I can re-publish those works on another platform.
